Product data forms the basis for successful digital sales. However, in many companies, it is distributed across different systems – such as Excel spreadsheets, ERP, or other data sources. This leads to duplicate maintenance, different data statuses, and a high coordination effort. A Product Information Management System (PIM) creates a central data base and ensures that product information is consistently provided across all channels.
We rely on Akeneo, an established open-source PIM. With it, product data can be managed, supplemented, translated, and automatically distributed to the desired channels – for example, to the online shop, website, digital catalogs, or marketplaces.
A PIM does not replace the ERP but complements it sensibly. While the ERP remains the leader for prices, stock levels, and commercial processes, the PIM takes over the management of all product-related information such as descriptions, images, features, variants, and translations. Together with CMS and online shop, an integrated platform is created in which product data can be maintained centrally and used efficiently.
PIM System | Akeneo
Does this sound familiar to you?
Poor product data costs you twice: internally through maintenance effort, externally through returns, inquiries, and lost customers.
Excel as PIM
Product data lives in lists that circulate via email: version 17_final_NEW. No one knows which is current.
Channel jungle
Shop, website, catalog, and marketplace show different data for the same product: each channel is maintained separately.
Variants & languages
Sizes, colors, versions, translations: With each dimension, the maintenance effort grows exponentially: without a system, it becomes unmanageable.

Workflows & data quality
Completeness checks, approval processes, enhancement workflows: To ensure your data quality improves rather than fluctuates.
Five signals that you need a PIM.
Your product data is in multiple Excel lists, and no one can say which is current.
You operate more than one channel – shop, website, catalog, marketplace – and maintain each individually.
Variants and translations consume more time than the actual product work.
New products take weeks to be online because data is gathered from three departments.
Your ERP can represent prices and stocks but not images, texts, and attributes in the quality your sales needs.
If more than one of these applies, it's worth having a conversation. And if a PIM is (still) not the right answer, we'll tell you that too – sometimes a clean process is enough.
