Accessibility Audit: WB.at becomes inclusive and barrier-free.

About the project

Hard Facts

Digital Inclusion

With an accessible website, we enable all people to access digital content - regardless of limitations.

Benefits of Accessibility

By creating an accessible design for our website, we increase visibility in search engines and thus expand our target audience.

Make your website accessible

We check your website for accessibility and make it accessible, legally compliant, and future-proof.

Why Accessibility?

With the upcoming European Accessibility Act (EAA) Digital accessibility becomes mandatory for many products and services in the EU. We have taken this opportunity to subject our own website to a comprehensive accessibility check - not only to meet legal requirements, but above all to identify potentials.

What may seem like a regulatory requirement at first glance is in fact a great opportunity: Making digital offerings accessible to everyone opens up new target groups, improves the user experience, and strengthens trust in the brand. In our case, through analysis, we were able to identify targeted improvements that benefit not only people with disabilities but all users, such as clearer navigation, better readability, and mobile-optimized content.

An accessible website is not only future-proof, but also a real competitive advantage.

We will make you EAA ready

Is your website accessible?

Our approach

In order to significantly improve the digital accessibility of our website, we have structured and designed the process in a practical manner. From systematic analysis to evaluation according to established standards to the implementation of specific measures - we aimed not only to identify weaknesses but also to create sustainable improvements.

Step 1

In the first step, we created a checklist with all the relevant requirements of the EAA. This helped us keep track of what we needed to pay attention to and allowed us to track which requirements our website already met and where problems occurred.

Create Accessibility Checklist

Step 2

In the first test, we used an automatic tool that scanned the entire website and identified the accessibility issues. We summarized these identified problems and compared them with the checklist that was created earlier. In a report, we documented all the barriers that were collected in order to get an overview and prioritized them based on their importance.

Step 3

During the manual testing, we evaluated how well screen readers work with the Werbeberg website. We paid special attention to the focus order in which the screen reader navigates the pages and how the website looks on mobile devices. Next, we checked the readability of our website for color-blind users and in case of strong sunlight. For this purpose, we used a tool that can simulate different types of color blindness and sunlight exposure.

Manual inspection

Step 4

During the color analysis, we tested our color palette for accessibility. To do this, we created a color matrix with all possible combinations and checked the contrast of each. There are two threshold values defined for the contrast of body text and headings or large text: body text must have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 to be accessible for users, while headings and large text should have a ratio of 3:1.

Step 5

In the next step, we proceeded with finalizing the report. We summarized all accessibility issues, prioritized them according to their urgency, and developed a checklist. This way, we had a plan with actions and were able to start implementing the adjustments to our accessible website directly.

The result

After the comprehensive accessibility audit, we have identified and fixed specific digital barriers on our website - from weak color contrasts to correct keyboard navigation to missing ALT texts.

The result: an accessible website that not only meets formal standards, but enables real digital inclusion. People with different needs can now perceive, operate, and understand our content effortlessly - regardless of limitations or devices used. At the same time, the analysis has had an impact far beyond technology: it has raised awareness in our team for the importance of accessibility. This new awareness of inclusive design now significantly influences our way of working - and strengthens our goal of making digital solutions accessible to everyone.
